Rules & Regulations

🎸 BATTLE OF THE BANDS: OFFICIAL RULES & REGULATIONS

​

1. ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
  • Age Category: Open to all ages.

  • Genre: Performances must fall within the Island Reggae / Reggae/ Jawaiian / Roots genre.

  • Originality:  Covers are permitted but must be performed in the band's unique style.

  • Entry Fee: Free event, no fee to enter.

2. PERFORMANCE & TIMING
  • Set Length: Each band is allotted 12-15 minutes for their performance.

  • Change-Over: Bands have 15 minutes to set up and 15 minutes to strike (clear the stage).

  • Late Starts: Time spent on technical issues caused by the band will be deducted from their performance time.

  • Sound Check: A brief line-check will be provided, but full sound checks must be completed during the pre-event window.

3. EQUIPMENT & BACKLINE
  • Provided (Backline): The organizers will provide a drum kit (minus cymbals/snare), bass amp.

  • Band Responsibility: Bands must bring their own instruments (guitars, keyboards), drum sticks, cymbals, and any specialized pedals and guitar amps

  • Strict No-No: No pyrotechnics, fog machines, or excessive volume levels that exceed the decibel limit set by the sound engineer.

4. CONTENT & CONDUCT (The "Aloha" Clause)
  • Clean Lyrics: This is a family-friendly community event. Profanity or suggestive content in lyrics will result in immediate disqualification.

  • Alcohol/Substances: Any band member found under the influence on-site will be disqualified and removed from the premises.

  • Sportsmanship: Respect toward other bands, judges, and staff is mandatory. "Trash talking" or poor sportsmanship is grounds for removal and disqualification.

5. JUDGING CRITERIA

Bands will be scored on a scale of 1–10 in the following categories:

  1. Musicality: Technical skill, vocals, and tightness of the rhythm section.

  2. Stage Presence: Engagement with the crowd and overall energy.

  3. Originality: Creativity in arrangements (especially for covers like the 94Tunez style).

  4. Crowd Response: Measured by applause and audience engagement.

 

6. COMPETITION

Applicants selected for live performance will be scheduled to perform and battle on 1 of 3 dates (April 10, 17, 24th ) 

There will be 1 winner per week/ battle of the band dates 

Winner of the week will advance to final battle on May 1st. 

This competition is open to all, but participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodations, and transportation. Rumble at Da spot will not be providing any travel , accomodations, or transportation to any events. 

 

Winners will also be responsible for any travel, accommodations, transportation for recording session, and music video shoot, radio promo. Unless otherwise specified. 

 

7.  PRIZES
  • Winner Takes All 

    • ​Record 1 Debut Single Under Sparky's Records with
          -iVibe Productions 
          -Grammy award-winning producer & mixing engineer Michael Casil
          -Mastering engineer Ron "Ruff" Boyce 
      2 sessions with Vocal Coach, Lead Singer of Rebel Souljahz, or better known as 94Tunez 

    • Radio Interview – Dane Patao 92.5

    • FAM sponsorship for music video attire 

    • Music Video for debut single to be shot by Ryota of Shoot n Shoyu

    • The Limo Company Maui to provide all transportation for music video shoot 

    • Potentially be signed under Sparky’s Records

"Every participating band will receive a written feedback sheet from the judges within 48 hours of the event to help them grow their craft."
